Another one from the same storm as this one --> [link]

Too bad the right one was weak. Two strong ones in one shot - now, that would be amazing! :D

great catch - love these bad weather shots, amazing :)

Thx, guys :) I love them also, it's a great feeling when you catch something as fast as speed of light ;)

I am in love with the pastel tones in this shot! Beautiful composition. You've got just the right amount of land/sky in your frame and the two lightning bolts are exceptional. Great capture. :)

Thanks! You have amazing gallery.

Wow, what an excellent capture! I completely agree with what 'Rhavethstine' said. I love the colors and composition. Great job! :)

Thanks, a bit late, sorry. :) In one month time I'm going back to tornado alley for 3 weeks. I hope to catch some more beauties and luckily even the beast to tag along. :D

Is there a trick to getting photos of lightning? or is it all luck and good timing?

great shot by the way.

well... nevermind.

Thanks for the comment mate.

At daylight, yes it is luck. You can try with burst shots and you may catch something. I did so twice this year, but the lightnings are much more spectacular late in the evening or at night.

At night time it is much easier. Because it is dark you can have much longer exposure times. If no lights are in the way, exposures can be really long. What you want to do is, get to the storm, wait until the exposure is several seconds long (you can also use higher F-stop (for instance F16 instead of F5.6), which lets in less light thus the exposure time is longer), try to aim to the point where most strikes occur and hope that lightning strikes where you aim at and at the right time. :) A bit of advice, you always have to check the photo after shot, because sometimes lightnings are close and very strong and all you can see in the shot is white splat, you have to increase F-stop or vice versa where the lightning is to far away/weak. And it is recommended that you use Bulb function, you can end your shot whenever you want.

That's basically it, I hope this helps a bit.
